::: Notes

This course has covered the operational, security, networking, storage, and cost management domains of AWS systems operations — all of which are tested in AWS Certification exams. The resources listed here provide pathways for continued learning beyond the course: the Well-Architected Framework, pricing whitepaper, and What's New feed are particularly valuable for staying current with AWS developments between the course completion and exam scheduling.

AWS Certifications validate technical expertise at different experience levels and across role-specific domains. The Systems Operations Associate certification is the natural credential for students completing this course — it validates operational knowledge of deploying, managing, and monitoring systems on AWS. The 3-year recertification requirement ensures that certified individuals stay current with the rapidly evolving AWS service landscape rather than holding a credential that reflects outdated knowledge.

#### Student notes

AWS Certification helps learners to build credibility and confidence by validating their cloud expertise with an industry-recognized credential. Certification helps organizations to identify skilled professionals who can lead cloud initiatives by using Amazon Web Services (AWS). The slide shows the AWS certifications that are currently available. To earn an AWS Certification, you must earn a passing score on a proctored exam. For role-based certifications, the following are the recommended experience levels with AWS Cloud services for each certification level:

* **Professional** : Two years of comprehensive experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting solutions by using the AWS Cloud.
* **Associate** : One year of experience solving problems and implementing solutions by using the AWS Cloud.
* **Foundational** : Six months of fundamental AWS Cloud and industry knowledge.

Specialty certifications focus on a particular technical domain. The recommended experience for taking a specialty exam is technical experience in the domain as specified in the exam guide. AWS does not publish a list of all services or features that are covered in a certification exam. However, the exam guide for each exam lists the current topic areas and objectives that the exam covers. For more information and to review the exam guides and other preparation materials, see AWS Certification exam preparation at https://aws.amazon.com/certification/certification-prep/. The slide shows the AWS certifications that are available. Exams are frequently updated, and the details regarding which exams are available---and what is tested by each exam---are subject to change. For more information about the latest AWS certification exam information, see AWS Certification at https://aws.amazon.com/certification/. You are required to update your certification (or recertify) every 3 years. For more information, see AWS Recertification at https://aws.amazon.com/certification/recertification/.

### Slide 7:

![Slide 7](slide_7.png)

::: Notes

Exam preparation is most effective when treated as a structured process rather than a single study session before the test. The four-step framework — understand the exam format, fill knowledge gaps, practice in a realistic environment, and validate readiness — mirrors how operational skills are developed: understand the requirements first, then close gaps, then validate through realistic testing.

#### Student notes

This course includes content that might be related to an

AWS Certification exam. To continue preparing for the exam, follow these
core four steps. For more information about each exam, scan the QR code
to see Explore AWS Certification Exams at
https://aws.amazon.com/certification/exams.

### Slide 8:

![Slide 8](slide_8.png)

::: Notes

Understanding the exam format before studying prevents the common mistake of preparing for the wrong style of questions. AWS exams test scenario-based judgment — selecting the best option from several valid choices — not factual recall of API names. The Official Practice Question Sets use the same authoring process as real exam questions, making them the closest proxy for assessing actual exam readiness rather than general AWS knowledge.

#### Student notes

Step one is getting to know the exam and exam-style questions. You can review the exam guide for each exam by exploring the AWS Certification Exams page. For more information, see Explore All AWS Certification Exams at https://aws.amazon.com/certification/exams. For sample exam questions, you can sign up on AWS Skill Builder. Within Skill builder, you can enroll in an Official Practice Question Set. For more information, see AWS Skill Builder: Your Learning Center to Build In-demand Cloud Skills at https://explore.skillbuilder.aws/learn. The questions in the practice sets are created by following the same process as questions that you will see on the actual AWS Certification exams. They include detailed feedback and recommended resources to help you prepare for your exam.

### Slide 9:

::: Notes

Hands-on experience through AWS Builder Labs provides practical reinforcement of the concepts covered in this course. Conceptual understanding and hands-on application reinforce each other: knowing how a service works helps you use it effectively, and using a service reveals subtleties that are difficult to convey in slides or documentation. Students who complete relevant Builder Labs before their exam typically encounter fewer surprises in scenario-based questions.

#### Student notes

Step two is brushing up on exam topics. In addition to

reviewing the exam guide and enrolling in self-paced courses on AWS
Skill Builder, you can explore AWS Builder Labs to get hands-on
experience with AWS. For more information, see AWS Builder Labs at
https://aws.amazon.com/training/digital/aws-builder-labs.

::: Notes

AWS Skill Builder's subscription tier provides access to resources that mirror the actual exam environment: domain-specific courses for targeted gap closure, self-paced labs for hands-on reinforcement, and exam simulations for readiness validation. The gamified AWS Cloud Quest format offers a different learning modality — useful for students who find scenario-based challenges more engaging than traditional courses for building procedural knowledge.

#### Student notes

Next, you can take exam preparation courses in AWS Skill

Builder. Skill Builder also offers many resources to help you address
any gaps in your knowledge that you discover. Skill Builder offers
courses across all domains. AWS Builder Labs includes hundreds of
self-paced labs. And, if you want to gain hands-on experience with AWS
services by playing a game, you can try AWS Cloud Quest. Note: Some of
these resources require a digital subscription.

### Slide 11:

![Slide 11](slide_11.png)

::: Notes

Official practice exams simulate the real exam experience: same question count, same difficulty calibration, and exam-style scoring that produces a pass/fail result rather than just a score. The two modes — timed simulation versus untimed with immediate answer feedback — serve different preparation purposes. Timed simulation builds exam stamina and time management; untimed practice with per-question feedback is more effective for identifying and closing knowledge gaps during the study phase.

#### Student notes

Finally, determine your exam readiness by taking an

official practice exam. Each practice exam includes the same number of
questions as the actual exam. The practice exams provide practice with
the same question style, depth, and rigor as the certification exam.
They include exam-style scoring and a pass or fail result. You also
receive feedback about the answer choices for each question, with
recommended resources to deepen your understanding of key topics. You
can also choose to simulate the exam experience by taking a timed exam
with answers shown only at the end. Or, you can choose other options,
such as an untimed exam or an exam with answers shown after submitting
each question.

::: Notes

AWS offers both online proctored and in-person testing center options for certification exams, giving students flexibility to choose the environment that suits their preferences and circumstances. Online proctoring eliminates travel requirements but introduces technical requirements (webcam, stable internet, clean testing environment) that should be verified well before the scheduled exam date.

AWS Skill Builder's free tier provides access to over 600 on-demand courses, making ongoing learning accessible without subscription costs. The subscription tier adds self-paced labs, practice exams, and role-based challenges for students who benefit from hands-on and scenario-based learning beyond course content. Continued learning after course completion is important in a cloud environment that introduces new services and features frequently.

The course evaluation process provides feedback that improves future deliveries. Students who share specific feedback about what was most and least useful contribute to continuously improving the course for subsequent cohorts. Instructors should acknowledge that both positive and constructive feedback are valued.
